Fully integrated Railroad Crossing and Block detection system

Owner Michael Groves reviews the Integrated RR Crossing Kit using Lamplighter® DFL kit which contains the brand-new Lamplighter DFL, (Dedicated Flasher Unit), two HO or N Scale Railroad Crossings, two Side on Detectors including mounting unit components and the Crossing Bell.  There is an option to purchase this kit with a Power Supply, if needed.  This kit contains detailed instructions on how to use the Railroad Crossing Kit and the above video gives a more in-depth description of the contents along with step-by-step directions.  One customer who tested the Integrated RR Crossing Kit using Lamplighter® DFL kit stated: "This is incredibly easy” D. Gaskell.

This is the ideal product for a standalone Railroad crossing both in terms of ease of installation and cost.

The Lamplighter® DFL is the unit that controls everything. Looking at DFL unit you can see the fiber chimneys on the front of the unit.  The RR Crossings connect directly to the DFL though the fiber chimneys.  All you need to do is insert the fibers from the RR Crossing Signals (no need for fiber pins).  The Side-on Connectors contain all the components to mount including a box that looks like an electrical box so that the sensors fits aesthetically into your scenery.   Then you can connect the Crossing Bell fibers easily into the DFL unit.

Proximity Sensors Pro-Tip

Each side-on detector comes with a housing that looks like an electrical box.  There is a slit in the box that the sensor part can “see out from”.   So you get not only a detector, but also a scenic piece that can be painted, weathered, add foliage to etc.

Crossing Gate and Crossing Signal Options using IR Detection

Michael describes the four RR crossing gate and signal options that can be used with the DFL unit - N Scale RR Crossing, HO Scale RR Crossings, HO Dwarf Signals or an HO Scale Tall Block Signals.

The layout in this video shows the DFL unit wired up with sensors, as well as the crossing bell.  Michael shows you how the electrical box fits nicely over the Side-On Detectors after mounted onto your layout.  As the train moves past the sensor, you hear the Crossing Bell ring and see the lights start flashing at the RR Crossing Gate. There is a wonderful video clip from our customer Doug Gaskel demonstrating the Integrated RR Crossing Kit using Lamplighter® DFL kit on his layout.

The Lamplighter DFL is really two complete products in one.  The jumper that takes it from being a Railroad Crossing System to a Block Detection System is just moved across the unit.  It is just that simple!
